What happens if you build without a permit?
Building without a required permit is a code violation. When it is found, by an inspector, a neighbor’s complaint or a buyer’s inspection, the department can stop the work, charge extra fees, fine the owner and require the work to be permitted, opened up for inspection, corrected or removed. The rules below are each city’s own.
